RAILROADS IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE- by Theodore Kornweibel

Come and be a part of the organizational history of the National Black Railroader's Historical Society as the inaugural Board of Directors, lead by Representative Dwight M. Bullard, Florida House of Representatives, District 118 takes the helm. The event is being hosted by Event Chairperson, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis Moss, District 9 and sponsored in part by Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs and the Board of County Commissioners.
Immediately following the breakfast, author Theodore Kornweibel whose seminal book on the history how railroads played a part in the life of Black Americans will lecture on his amazing findings on the significant contributions to America’s railway system. Mr. Kornweibel’s work helped spark the movement to incorporate this new national historical society.
Suggested donations-- $30 - Includes a 1 year student membership and collectible charter certificate to a child of your choice to the Historical Society.
$50 -Includes a 1 year adult membership to the Society and a collectible charter membership certificate.

Gold Coast Railroad Museum

Miami, Florida
The commemorative celebration moves in the Gold Coast Railroad Museum where attendees will have the opportunity to tour an array of historic railroad cars, including an actual Jim Crow car. Visitors will also have the opportunity to tour an artistic exhibition curated by South Dade artist Alan Laird, chronicling Blacks in Railroads pre-World War 1. The exhibit features actual luggage, train accessories, uniforms and more. The day also features art exhibits and more.
Admission is $10 per person and includes free train rides and access to all exhibits.

The commemorative celebration continues at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum with access to the historic railroad cars, and Black railroaders exhibition. The day winds down with a soul food tasting, featuring cookbook author (Wines and Collard Greens, Pecan Tree Publishing) and wine connoisseur Gwenda Kenon, who was raised in South Miami. Kenon will conduct a wine tasting of special selections chosen to accompany traditional Southern foods. There will be a sampling of homestyle prepared collard greens, along with the opportunity to purchase full dinners for the entire family. Let's not forget the live blues band.
Admission is $10 per person and includes free train rides and access to all exhibits.
